Soho Angel eBook Greg Keen Reviews

  • This is the third book in the series featuring Kenny Gabriel and Odeerie Charles, a duo of skip tracers who get involved in crimes far worse than than the usual dead beat dads. Kenny is a late middle-aged man who has moved from job to job and been a skip tracer for six years. He's rather down at the heels, surviving because of his successful brother's largesse; he's not successful personally, including his love life, but his involvement in a complex 20-year old missing persons case brings surprising results. He is the "legs" of the operation as Odeerie is an agoraphobiac, morbidly obese, and hasn't left his apartment in years. He is the fact-finder, the computer genius who finds the trails Kenny follows. While an unlikely pair, both are likable and believable. The crimes that are uncovered are many and serious, but Mr. Keen gives some relief by his injection of wry humor and observations through Kenny's speech and thoughts. I've read all three books in the series, and I recommend them all highly. It's best to read them in order. I, for one, will be sorry to say goodbye to Kenny and Odeerie.
  • Human nature stripped bare. Not a pretty sight.
A new angle, which means that the authour is not going stale. We are left with a cliffhanger, but I am not worried. What I am worried about is that Mr Keen will decide to do something different.
My only gripe; too little Farrelly.
  • This book stars an (nowadays at least) interesting hero. Instead of being a Macho hero who runs into an armed conflict armed with only a paper clip, we have this chain smoking, alcoholic hero who shuffles in the opposite direction. Very cleverly written, you feel sympathy for this almost reluctant hero, despite his faults.
  • Kenny Gabriel, PI, is tasked with looking into the case of missing rock star Castor Greaves and his model girlfriend. For 20 years this mystery has been a much discussed and written about story with umpteen theories. The model's mother, suddenly having come into money, is desperate to find out what happened to her daughter. Kenny's boss, an agoraphobic foodaholic, wants Kenny to solve the case. With the promise of media coverage it has the potential of attracting new clients...filling the depleted coffers of their small company.
Poor Kenny not only an impossible task trying to crack a 20-year old cold case, he also has debilitating side effects due to a brain tumor and is trying to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend, who now has a new, filthy rich and handsome boyfriend.
With important informants being killed off, several attempts on his life as well as being tortured, Kenny's life just before his hopefully lifesaving operation is almost impossible. There are so many twists and turns, I had a hard time putting my down. I really liked Kenny and was rooting for him all the way. Hopefully there will be another book to continue his story. Does he survive his operation intact, does he quit being a PI and does he get the girl? More please!
